Wood Dry Rot Repair and general wood replacement.

 
 When we were hired to perform a roof inspection on this home in Cupertino, CA. we found that because the tile roof was not properly installed, that the wood barge rafter and roof sub sheathing had incurred dry rot and was in need of repair.
The roofing felt was not turned over the edge, as is required by building code and manufacturer's specifications and this is a known cause of roof leaks and wood rot on tile roofs. A roof repair by a licensed (and competent) roofing contractor experienced in tile roof installation is the most effective and long term method of roof repair.

        

Dry Rot Repair Done Correctly

First Roof Doctor removed the existing tile to expose the rotted wood. Dry rot repair cannot be done correctly without this. While some of the cheaper repairmen do do it, it is not physically possible to correctly nail and secure the new components when using this method and we will not ever do this.

Next we installed a new redwood barge rafter and outriggers, then V rustic sheathing to replace the dry rotted stuff. We then we installed a new galvanized rain gutter, 30 lb. felt turned over the outside edge 2 inches, and re installed the tile roofing.

Roof Inspection

After a roof inspection was done on this house, we found an improperly installed composition shingle roof that had resulted in dry rot around the entire perimeter of the house. For the roof repairs we are replacing dry rotted fascia boards, rotted barge rafters, outriggers, roof sheathing and roofing.
